چکیده

The small-angle source (SAS), 4X source, and 8X source are Penning surface-plasma sources (SPS) that produce high-current, high-brightness H" ion beams for accelerator applications. The scaling from the SAS (IX source) to the 4X source, and from the 4X source to the 8X source is at least as good as predicted by the scaling laws. In many instances, the scaling is better than predicted, particularly in the critical area of the efficiency with which H" ions are produced per unit of discharge power. Using £ = JH-/FC. where Fc is the cathode power load, C4X * 2 CsAS and Csx « 1.5 C4XThe JHscaling is at least as good as predicted by the scaling laws we have been able to produce the predicted H" current in both the 4X and the 8X sources. The SAS was scaled up in size to the 4X source, and the 4X source was scaled up in size to the 8X source, on the assumption that the effective kTH= 5 eV. These temperature scalings appear to be obeyed. We also assumed that kTH= kTDand jo= JH-WI The temperature scaling appears to be obeyed, and the D" current scaling appears to be even better than assumed, namely jo-«JH-BMD TECHNICAL INFORMATION CENTCR

Electron cyclotron resonance ion sources – physics, technology and future challenges

The performance of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Sources (ECRIS), producing high charge state ions from a great variety of elements, has improved dramatically over the past decades, thus enabling significant advances in accelerator-based nuclear physics. The orderof-magnitude performance leaps of ECR ion sources, e.g. from 15 μA of extracted O in 1974 [1] to 4700 μA in 2016 [2], result from ...

Surface modification of γ-alumina by NaNO2, NaNO3, HNO2, HNO3 and H2SO4: A DFT-D approach

In this study, the dissociative adsorption of NaNO2, NaNO3, HNO2, HNO3 and H2SO4 over (1 1 0) surface of γ-alumina non-spinel model were investigated through the dispersion corrected density functional theory (DFT-D) at PBE-D/DNP level of calculation. It was found that all of the species are dissociated to their ionic forms after...

Investigation of ISIS and Brookhaven National Laboratory ion source electrodes after extended operation.

Linac4 accelerator of Centre Européen de Recherches Nucléaires is under construction and a RF-driven H(-) ion source is being developed. The beam current requirement for Linac4 is very challenging: 80 mA must be provided. Cesiated plasma discharge ion sources such as Penning or magnetron sources are also potential candidates. Accelerator ion sources must achieve typical reliability figures of 9...
